比較⑲比較級を用いたフレーズ2 moreとless

Akira: Commander, the alien spacecraft is going down to the surface of Mars!
船長(司令官)、異星人の宇宙船が火星の表面に着陸しようとしています。
Megan: Well, we were going down there anyway. Let’s follow it.
そうね、我々もいずれにしてもそこに行こうとしていたのだから、
ついて行ってみましょう。
Akira: Can you believe this is really happening?
これが本当に起こっていることなんて、信じられますか?
動詞句believeの後ろにその内容を説明する節を続けたリポート文。
(主語の思考・発言・知識・感情などをリポートする)
*語順則「説明ルール:説明は後ろに置く」、
Megan: I had a feeling we weren’t alone in the universe.
私は、私たちがこの宇宙で一人切りではないという印象を持っていたわ。
we weren’t以下の節が名詞a feelingの後ろに置かれ、「説明ルール」で
展開していく。
Akira: Realy?
本当ですか?
Megan: Yes, the Earth is no more than a little planet.
そうね、地球はちっぽけな惑星に過ぎないもの。
Akira: I gusee the universe is too big for only us humans.
宇宙は我々人類にとって、あまりにも大きなものだと感じますね。

FEEL ENGLISH LIKE A NATIVE SPEAKER!
The Earth is no more than a little planet.
moreはmany/muchの比較級「より多く」。
アno more than「~にすぎません(=only)」
noには強い感情「全然そうではない」が宿っている。
一方感情が含まれない「~を超えてはいない」という客観的なフレーズは、
イnot more than
アThere were no more than ten people present.
10人しか出席者はいませんでした。(たったそれだけ、ガッカリ感)
イThere were not more than ten people present.
10人以下の出席者でした。(客観的なフレーズ)
littleの比較級less(より少ない)
ウnot less than 「(客観的な)~より下ではない」
エno less than 「(数量の大きさを強調して)そんなにも」

私たちは5,000ワード以上の論文を書かなくてはなりません。

あの地域のアパートは50万ドルもするのです。
