Grammar and vocabulary

Cynthia: Bill, do you have a moment?

          ビル、あなた少しだけ時間ある

Bill: Sure, Cynthia. What’s up?.

  もちろん、シンシア。何があったの?

Cynthia: Have you heard of the film director, Doris williams?

          映画監督のドリス・ウイリアムズのこと聞いたことある?

     ①現在完了形②hear of

           ①現在完了形は「経験(~したことがある)」を述べることも出来る。

     「今に迫ってくる」イメージは、過去の出来事を今に引き付けて語る

     「経験」にピッタリ。

     ②Hear of 「(名前などを)聞いたことがある」程度の軽いニュアンス。

Bill: Yeah, she’s the one who made that tap-dancing musical, right?

      ああ、彼女はあのタップダンスのミュージカル映画を作った人だ、そうだろう?

Cynthia: Right. She contacted me recently.

          そうよ。彼女が最近私にコンタクトを取っているのよ。

    She wants to make a documentary about the Desperate Rats.

      彼女はデスパレート・ラッツのドキュメンタリー映画を撮りたいそうなのよ。

Bill: Well, it’s about time somedody made a film about us.

      まあ、誰かが僕たちの映画を作る潮時ではあるね。

   It’s about time~ 

  「そろそろ~しても良い頃だ」。これからのことを述べるのに過去形medeが

  使われている。仮定法は「事実に反する・可能性が著しく低い」を表す形。

  この文で用いられているのは「(実際にはしていないが)していい頃」という含み。

Cynthia: So, you agree to the idea?

    それじゃ、あなたはこのアイデアに賛成なのね?

Bill: Sure, as long as it doesn’t put too much pressure on the band.

  そうさ、バンドに対してあまりなぷれっしゃーを与えさえしなければね。

Cynthia: I’m sure it won’t.

    それはない筈だわ。

 

Key Sentence

Sure, as long as it doesn’t put too much pressure on the band.

putは「何かを・どこかに・ポン」。ポンと置くものは実際の事物に限られない。

ポンと置く感触が「当てはまる」もの全てが対象。

 

①put emphasis on social status   社会的地位に重きを置く

 Emphasis(強調・重視)をputする

②put the plan into practice  計画を実行に移す

 Plan(計画)もputすることができる 

 into「~の中に」、変化を表す。

③put your name[signature] here  あなたの名前[サイン]をここに書く

 name,signatureもputできる。

④put the blame on me    私に責任を負わせる

   put my trust in you    あなたに私の信頼を寄せる

 blame(責任・非難)、trust(信頼)もputできる。
