① Oh, you knew I’m a big fan of Sake.
まあ、あなたは私が日本酒の大ファンだということを知っていたのね。
I’m so happy you could come.
あなたが来ることが出来て、とてもうれしいわ。
・a big fan of～(の～大ファン)
・I’m so happyの後ろにyou could comeと、何がとてもうれしいのかを
続けている、リポート文。
② Let me introduce you to my friends.
私の友人達に紹介させて。
・letを用いた目的語説明型。目的語と説明語句との間に「＝(イコール)あるいは
主語―述語」の関係がある形。「meがintroduce～するのをlet(許せ)」ということ。
2. Girl friend: Hey, you look sad.
どうしたの、何か悲しそうね。
You:
① We, I had a little argument with my girl friend.
ええと、彼女とちょっと言い合いをしてね。
・have an argumentは「言い争いになる」。littleを添えて「ちょっとした」という
ニュアンス。
She said she wanted a cute little poppy for her birthday, so I bought her one.
彼女が誕生日にかわいい小さなポピーが欲しいと言ったので、それを買ったんだ。
・a cute little～(かわいい小さな～)はよく使われるコンビネーション。
・I bought her oneではpoppyの繰り返しを避けるためoneで置き換え。
② But actually what she wanted was a puppy! Big mistake, wasn’t it?
だけど実は、彼女が欲しかったのはパピー(子犬)だったんだよ！大失敗だよね？
・what she wantedはwh節。「彼女が何を欲しがっていた(のか)」と
「彼女が欲しかったもの」両用の形。

1. G’day. Oh my gosh! You are so sunburned. Are you OK?
→ No... I got sunburned really badly...I’m not feeling well.
2. You poor thing! How did it happen?
→ Yesterday I played volleyball and collected seashells. And two days ago,
I went snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef! That’s how my back got sunburned.
3. When did the pain start?
→ The pain started right after the volleyball game yesterday.
4. Oh…Is it getting better or getting worse?
→ It might be getting better, but I had trouble sleeping.
5. So where does it hurt most now?
→ My upper back…It really hurts here…around my neck. And the back of my legs
are a little swollen and red. See?
6. I can get you something at the pharmacy. Or shall I take you to the doctor?
→ Well, I don’t think I’m able to sit in the car yet. Maybe some cream will help..
