Say it in English

1.Friend: Don’t forget my birthday party, OK?

       You: I hate to say this, but I can’t make it to your party.

     　      I hate to say this, but ～「言いづらいのですが・こんなこと

              言いたくはないのですが、～」相手にとっては少なからずショッキングな内容

     　     make it「成功する」、ここでは「パーテｲへの参加」

             I’m styaying in Kyoto for a film shoot on that day.

             現在進行形am staying「予定」を表す形。

             I’ll make it up to you, OK?

　　　　 mke it upは目的語説明型。itは「失敗によって開けた穴」をup(埋めて元通り)

　　　　　にするということ。

2. Daugter: Good morning, Dad.

    You: Good morning. Your lunch is in the microwave.

            Microwave「電子レンジ」

           Make sure you lock the door before you leave, OK?

　　　 make sure「確実に(必ず)～する」。節かto不定詞が続く。

           toのイメージは矢印→。「これから」のニュアンスを持っているので、

          make sureと良いコンビネーション。

          I’ve got to go now.

　　　 I’ve got to ～= I have to ～「～しなくてはならない」

  → Sure. My pleasure. Happy to help.

5. I’m flying to London today. How about you? Are you going to London too?

　→ Yes. I AM! I’m on the three o’clock flight to London.

6. Really!? Well, maybe I’ll see you on the plane.

  → Yeah. Maybe I’ll see you on the plane.

7. Right…Well, bye for now.

  → Bye for now.
