比較⑰as～as…を用いたフレーズ2

Aki: Brendan? Do you remember me?

       ブレンダン？　私を覚えてる？

Peacock: Aki?  My goodness. How many years has it been?

　　　　アキ？　なんと。いったい何年経ったのかな？

　　　　現在完了形のイメージは「(今に)迫ってくる」。前回あった時から

　　　　視線が今に向かってくる。

Aki: Let’s just say it’s been a long time.

　　ただ、ずいぶん昔のことだって言っておきましょう。

Peacock: Please sit down. 　

               どうぞお掛け下さい。

　　　　Can I offer you a cup of tea?　　

               あなたに紅茶を一杯差し上げましょうか？

　　　　 動詞offerに目的語が2つ並んだ授与型、常に「あげる・くれる」

Aki: I said the same thing to you when we first met.

      私たちが初めて会った時、あなたに同じことを言ったわ。

Peacock: Yes, at the Pyramid of the Sun. You offered me iced tea.

               そうだ、太陽のピラミッドで。冷たいお茶を出してくれたよね。

Aki: It seems like yesterday.

       まるで昨日のことのようね。

Peacock: You’re as lovely as ever, Aki.　

               君は昔のままと変わらず愛らしいよ、アキ。

               You haven’t changed a bit.

              ちっとも変ってないね。

            「(今に)迫ってくる」感触の文。過去の相手を思い出し、

           「現在も変わっていない」、視線が今に向かっている。

Aki: And you’re as handsaome as ever,Brendan.

　　そしてあなたは相変わらずハンサムだわ、ブレンダン。

as～as…のコンビネーション

①as～as ever＝at any time(どの時点をとっても)　→相変わらず

   You’re as lovely as ever.

   And you’re as handsome as ever.

②as～as any 　どの…とも同じくらい～(どの…にも劣らず～)

   Charlie is as hardwoking as any sudent in our class!

   チャーリーは私のクラスの学生の中で、誰にも劣らず勤勉です！

③感嘆・驚きなどの感情を込める

    I read as many as four books in a day!

  私は1日に4冊も本を読みます！

　I read four books.と言えばすむところを、as many asをわざわざ加え

　「こんなにたくさん」を表現している。

1. あなたは相変わらず面白い(機知に富んだ・面白く軽妙な)ですね。

    You’re as witty as ever.

2. 彼の最新のスパイ小説は、私が読んだどの小説にも劣らず

   面白い(心をわしつかみする)ものです。

　 His latest spy nobel is as gripping as any novel I’ ve read.

3. 私は1週間に5回も水泳に行きます。

    I go simming as often as five times a week.

   go + 動詞-ing形「～しに行く」

   I’m looking forward to the cherry blossoms this year.

3. Are the cherry blossoms in bloom(blooming) now? 今、桜は咲いていますか？

4. The cherry blossoms aren’t in bloom yet. 桜はまだ咲いていません。

5. ①in full bloom 満開 ②fully bloomed

6. This weekend, the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom. 今週末、桜は満開です。

7. The cherry blossoms are beautiful this year. 今年の桜はきれいです。

8. Last year, the cherry blossoms were spoiled by rain.

    去年は雨で桜が台無しになってしまいました。

9. For me, cherry blossoms are really special. 私にとって桜は本当に特別です。
