　so it could be the battery.

　ええっと、電話が動かないんですよ。もう５年もずっと使ってるんです、

　それでバッテリーの問題じゃないかなと思って。

　・I’ve been using現在完了進行形

　　過去から現在に向けて「ずっと～している」。「(今に)迫ってくる」現在完了と

　　生き生きとした行為を描写する進行形のハイブリッド。

　・It could be～ 　「故障の原因」を漠然とitが受けている。

　　couldは可能性を表すcan(～しうる)の控えめ表現

　　「～ということもありえるかもしれない」。

• I’d like to change it for a new one.

　　新しいものと取り替えたいんです。

　・would likeはwantの上品な表現。

　・change ～ for …は「～を…に交換する」。

  本当に御免。６時にアラームをセットして置いたんだけど、鳴るのが

   聞こえなかったんだ。

　・set the alarm for～「～時にアラームをセットする」。

　・hear it ring～は目的語説明型。「it＝ ring～するのが聞こえ(なかった)」。

②I ran to the station breaking the world record for the 100 meter- sprint,

    but you were not there.

　駅まで100メートル走の世界記録を破る速さで走ったんだけど、

    君はもういなかったんだ。

　・ran to the stationの説明が breaking以下。「～し(破り)ながら駅まで走った」

  ・will「意志(～するよ)！」。

Day10　Let’s Go Back to London, England! At Buckingham Palace

1. Is that you?! I thought you were a British celebrity! You look really posh!

    → Well, thank you... but, you’re too nice.

2. Here’s Buckingham Palace!! Let’s join the queue to go inside the palace. Try to guess       how many rooms there are inside the palace…Are there 100 rooms? Or 500 rooms?

   What do you think?

   →I’ll say 500 rooms.

3. There are 775 rooms! Oh, the Changing of the Guard is starting now.

   Can you see?

   → Yeah. It’s quite a spectacle.

4. Oh, it’s our turn to go in…We’ve finally made it inside the palace!

    It’s spectacular. Isn’t it?

    → Yeah! Look at all the detail. There’s lots of gold… And

        marble statues…And oil paintings.

5. That is a painting of ...of… some very famous British royal person…

    Who is that a painting of?

   → I’m not sure, but there were a few King Georges in England,

      So chances are… that’s an oil painting of King George.

6. Next, we go down the Grand staircase… Let’s go together.

    How do you feel?

   → I feel marvelous. Wow! Can you imagine all the famous people

      who have walked down here? I feel like a king.
