Hiroshima, August 6th, 1945
How can I forget that flash of light?
30,000 people on the road disappeared instantly.
The sad screams of 50,000 people disappeared
in the bottom of crushed darkness.
When the swirling yellow smoke faded,
buildings had collapsed, bridges had fallen down,
and the crowded trains had burnt out with the people.
Hiroshima had turned into the endless tiles and stones, and sedimentation of ember.
In a few minutes people started wandering and walking.
The skin of both arms were peeled off like rag cloths,
they lifted it up to the chest
Treading upon the spilt brains,
putting on a small piece of burnt cloth to a waist,
naked people were crying and wandering in line.
There were scattered dead bodies like stone statues on the soldier’s training ground.
There were piled bodies. They had crawled up on the rafts by the river bank,
but became soon dead bodies under the scorching sun.
After the sunset, the sky was still bright by the flame of fire.
Mother and younger brother were still trapped alive under rubble at that time.
And the fire burned all towns at last.
On the floor unclean with feces and urine in the armory,
schoolgirls who run away laid their bodies.
They had become the potbelly, ruined one eye, burnt half of the body red-hot
and burnt down the whole hair.
Nobody could say who they were. When the sun rose
nobody did move anymore.
Bad smell stagnated
there was only sound of buzzing flies in a metal washbowl.
How can I forget
that sound of silence of all 300,000 people of the city?
In the quiet silence,
wives and children never return and left only eyes of white skull.
They split our heart and soul
and wished no more this tragedy that is never forgiven.
How can I forget this entreaty?
