1. Coworker: I don’t think I can finish my report by tomorrow.
リポートを明日までに書けそうもない。
You:
① The boss is really strict with deadlines.
ボスはとても締め切りに厳しいの。
・ボスにtheがついているのは、話し手・聞き手双方了解済みであるため。
・deadlinesが裸名詞(限定詞がつかない)であるのは、このボスが「締め切り一般」
に厳しいから。
You’d better hand in the report on time.
時間通りそのリポートを出さないといけないわ。
・You’d better、had betterは切迫感のある「～したほうがいい」。「そうしなければ
困ったことになる」が言外に感じられる。
② If you don’t mind, I’ll help you.
差し支えなければ手伝いますよ。
・If you don’t mind「もしよろしければ・差し支えなかったら」を表す決まり文句。

・the richは「the+形容詞(～の人々) 」。
・not always～は、「常に～とは限らない」。

→ Sure. I’ll think of something.
7. Well, you’re going to another city soon, so let’s make some nice memories
of Toronto together…
→ Aww…thanks! Canada is such a friendly country…
