比較④指定表現+as～as…

Alexis: Caspar, look. This dress is twice as expensive as the same one I saw online.

       　キャスパー、ほら、このワンピース。私がネットで見たのと

　　　同じものなのに、値段が倍もするわ。

Caspar: It’s almost as expensive as my Princess Layla figure.

　　　　僕のレイラ姫のフィギャアとほとんど変わらない値段だね。

Alexis: But a dress is more practical than that. What do you do with your doll 　                anyway.?

         でも、ワンピースならあんなのより実用的だわ。

　　 それにしてもあなたの人形、どうする積りなの？

Caspar: It’s a rare figure. It’ll go up in value someday.

            これは希少フィギャアなんだ。そのうち値段が上がっていくよ。

           go up[上に行く＝増える・増大する]　in value(価値において)と

            説明を付け加えている。

         go down[下に行く＝減る・減少する]

Alexis: But when you asked Ms.Kizawa,

           she said it was worth the same as when you bought it.

         でも、あなたがキザワさんに尋ねた時は、あなたが買った時の値段と同じだって

          言ってたじゃない。

           the same as ～(～と同じ)

           ①the same 同じものなので「ひとつに決まる」が意識されthe。

          ②何と同じなのかをas以下で説明する

Caspar: I want a second opinion.      セカンドオピニオンが要るね。

Caspar: Whatever…       ご勝手に…。

KEY SENTENCE

as～as…は、その前に倍数(回数)表現やhafを指定語句として付け加えることで、「○○倍」「…の半分」を表す。

指定表現+ as～as…＝　as～指定表現as…

　 2倍・2回twice

   3倍以上　three times(数字+times)

1. My new apartment is three times as large as the old one.

         私の新しいアパートは以前の3倍広いのです。

2. It’s almost as expensive as my Princess Layla figure.

　     それは私のレイラ姫のフィギャアとほとんど同じくらいします。

　     almost「ほとんど同じくらい」、as～as…を指定

3. My job is just as demanding as yours.

　    私の仕事はあなたの仕事とまったく同じくらい大変ですよ。

　    just「ピッタリ・まったく」、as～as…

1.私の給料は全国平均の2倍です。

　→ My salary is twic as high as the national average.

2.タクシーで行けばバスで行く半分の時間で行けますよ。

　→ by taxi, it will take you half as long as by bus.

     ①Take you long(長くかかる)のlongを、half as～ as…(…の半分の～)で

　　　くくる。

　 ②by「手段・方法」を表す前置詞。

　　　 by taxi, by bus　限定詞なしの単数形(数えられない名詞)は不可算扱い。

　　 　「タクシーという交通手段」

3.スウｴ―デンにおける地球温暖化は、世界のその他の地域の3倍速く進行しています。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　→ Global warming in Sweden is happening three times as fast as 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 in the rest of the world.

   Happenの速さをthree times as fast as以降で説明。
