Say it in English
1. Friend: How about your gym?
君のジムはどうだい？
You:
① My gym is excellent.
私のジムはすばらしいですよ。
It has all kinds of machines. A 25- meters pool too.
あらゆるマシンがあります。２５メートルプールもね。
・「25メートルの」はまとまった形容詞であるため、meterは複数形になる。
・tooは最も簡単な「～も」と、積み重ねる表現。
② On top of that, the staff members are so kind and always encourage me.
その上、スタッフはとても親切で、いつも私を励ましてくれます。
・on top of thatは「その上」と、論点を足す表現。
But the downside is that the membership fee is a bit expensive.
でも、よくないのは会費がちょっと高いことですね。
2. Friend: So, you proposed to her.
で、プロポーズしたのよね。
You:
① Mmm… I expected her to accept, but on the contrary, she said,
“No way!”
んー。受け入れてくれると思ったんだけど、それどころか「まさか！」と言われて
しまったよ。
・expected her to acceptは目的語説明型。「herがto以下の行為に進むことを
expected(期待した)」ということ。
・on the contraryは前段と真逆の内容を述べる決まり文句。
② I should have followed your advice.
君のアドバイスに従うべきだったなあ。
I’ll get a job and propose to her again!
就職してから、またプロポーズするよ。
・should have～「～すべきだった」と後悔を表す形。

1. 現在形：動詞につく語尾
① 動詞の語幹が母音で終わっているとき：-ㄴ대요ﾝデヨ
② ㄹパッチムで終わっているとき：ㄹを取って-ㄴ대요ﾝデヨ
③ ㄹ以外の子音で終わっているとき：-는대요ヌﾝデヨ

語幹にそのまま-대요をつける。(つまり基本形に요をつけるだけ)
